Today saw the official inauguration in the port of Saint Nazaire, of Floatgen , the first deep-water offshore wind turbine destined for the French seas. This innovative and complex project has been developed by three major partners : Idéol, Bouygues and the Ecole Centrale de Nantes.
The traditional champagne christening ceremony was carried out by the celebrated French navigator, Catherine Chabaud, accompanied by Sébastien Lecornu, Secretary of State for the new Ministry of Ecological and Social Transition.
In order to reflect the importance of these new technologies for future generations, hundreds of local schoolchildren were invited to visit the site and discover for themselves this “prototype” model for the renewable energy sources of the coming years.
